The reality of cancer
With a family history of breast cancer, I was prepared for it to cross my path at some stage
of my life and when I was told during May 2011 that I have been diagnosed with Infiltrating
breast carcinoma grade 3, it was less of a shock to me than for all my loved ones around
me....

Mastectomy
I had a modified radical mastectomy done on 19 May 2011. I stayed in hospital 4 days and
on the Monday had a scan to determine if all my internal organs were clean, and it was!!
The most difficult part in hospital was to rely on everyone to help you, because of the 2
portavac drains and drip in arm still it was difficult to go to the bathroom and even sit up
straight.
One of the nurses told me that sometimes we are put in a situation where we have to learn
to rely on other people to help us
